FreeReels: is it really free, is it on iPhone, and is it safe?
We make TotalShort, a short drama app: we say so wherever it matters. Facts about other apps come from their official App Store and Google Play pages and may change.
In short: FreeReels is a real, very large short drama app for Android: on Google Play it has more than 100 million downloads and 4.7 stars from 1.96 million reviews, and SKYWORK AI PTE. LTD. publishes it, the same company behind DramaWave. Its description promises "always free to access — no subscriptions, no limits", and the model behind that is advertising: the listing is labeled "Contains ads" and also shows in-app purchases from $0.99 to $119.99 per item. FreeReels isn't on Apple's App Store; on iPhone the same company publishes DramaReels. Listing read on October 6, 2026.

What FreeReels is
What the developer says it is
FreeReels describes itself as a place to "discover 70,000+ popular short dramas" in more than 19 languages, from US dramas and K-dramas to historical stories, revenge and CEO romance, with new releases every day and recommendations based on what you watch [1]. If the format is new to you, start with what a short drama is.
The facts we could verify
Everything below comes from the official Google Play listing, read on October 6, 2026 [1][2].
| Item | What the listing says |
|---|---|
| Publisher | SKYWORK AI PTE. LTD. |
| Rating (US) | 4.7 out of 5, 1.96 million reviews |
| Downloads | 100 million+ |
| Content rating | Teen, "Diverse Content: Discretion Advised" |
| Labels | Contains ads, In-app purchases |
| In-app purchases | $0.99 to $119.99 per item |
| Requires | Android 8.0 or later |
| Released | November 28, 2024 |
| Website | free-reels.com |
Google Play listed it at number 4 among top free entertainment apps when we read it [1]. That's a measure of how many people install it, not of whether a given series is good.

Is FreeReels really free?
What the description promises
"Always free to access — no subscriptions, no limits." That line is in the developer's own description [1], and reviewers who like the app say the same thing in their words: you can watch whole series without paying.
What pays for it: ads
The same listing carries the "Contains ads" label [1]. Free here means you pay with your attention instead of your card. The most common complaint in the reviews is the number of ads around episodes, so expect them and decide whether the trade suits you. Reviews are users' accounts, not the developer's terms.
Why there are still in-app purchases
The listing also carries the "In-app purchases" label, with items from $0.99 to $119.99 [1]; on the Italian listing, €0.99 to €124.99 [2]. The listing doesn't say what those purchases unlock. "No subscriptions" in the description and items up to $119.99 on the same page are both true facts; before you tap anything that costs money, Google Play's purchase sheet tells you exactly what it is and whether it renews.
Is FreeReels on iPhone?
Not on the App Store
We searched Apple's App Store in the US and in Italy through Apple's own search service on October 6, 2026, and FreeReels doesn't appear there [3]. It's an Android app.
The iPhone app from the same company: DramaReels
The App Store does list DramaReels, published by SKYWORK AI PTE LTD, the same company as FreeReels, with 4.9 stars from about 38,900 ratings in the US and a 13+ age rating [3]. If you're on iPhone and someone told you about FreeReels, that's the app from the same publisher. Check the publisher name on the store page before installing; its prices and free episodes are set in its own listing, not FreeReels'.
Watch out for lookalike names
The same App Store search also returns "FreeDrama - Dramas & Reels", from a different developer, Shenzhen Da Hua Tong Information Technology, with no ratings yet and a 16+ age rating [4]. The names are close; the companies aren't. Read the publisher line, not just the icon.
Who makes FreeReels
The publisher on Google Play is SKYWORK AI PTE. LTD. [1]. "Pte. Ltd." is the form Singapore uses for a private limited company. It's the same publisher as DramaWave, which we cover in DramaWave: is it worth paying for?, and as DramaReels on iPhone [3]. The listing gives free-reels.com as its website and a Gmail address as its contact email.
Is FreeReels safe?
What the data safety section says
According to the developer's declaration on Google Play: no data is shared with third parties; the app may collect location, personal info and three other data types; data is encrypted in transit; and you can request that your data be deleted [1]. Google notes that this is information the developer provides and may update.
Install it only from Google Play
Search results for FreeReels include APK download sites. Installing an APK from outside Google Play skips Google's checks and can bring you a modified build. If you want FreeReels, install it from Google Play and nowhere else.
The checklist
Seven checks before you pay any short drama app
- Who publishes it?A named developer on the official store listing, not a link from a social post.
- How many ratings?A 4.9 from 200 ratings means less than a 4.7 from 200,000.
- What is the billing period?Weekly, monthly or yearly: it is on the purchase sheet, read it before you confirm.
- Does it renew by itself?Subscriptions renew until you cancel with Apple or Google.
- What does one unlock cost?Turn coins into money before you spend them.
- Is there a free route?Free episodes, bonuses or ads: see how far they really get you.
- Does the age rating fit?Stores rate these apps from 13+ to 18+; check who will watch.
How not to spend more than you meant to
Android: purchase verification
In the Google Play app, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Purchase verification, and require it for every purchase [5]. On a free, ad-supported app this is the one setting that stops an accidental tap from costing money.
Android: budget and family controls
Google's subscription center lets you set a monthly budget and see your purchase history [6]. If a teenager uses the phone, Family Link can require a parent's approval for purchases. FreeReels is rated Teen with "Diverse Content: Discretion Advised" [1].
Another big free-to-start app is TikTok's PineDrama, which lists no purchases on the App Store but items up to $199.99 on Google Play; see our PineDrama guide.
Who FreeReels suits
You'd rather watch ads than pay
That's exactly the deal it offers. If the ads drive you away, it isn't the app for you, and paying apps start to make sense.
You're on iPhone
FreeReels isn't an option; DramaReels, from the same company, is. Compare it with the other apps before you decide.
You want Italian-set stories
The catalog is broad but the description doesn't mention Italian productions. That's the niche TotalShort covers, with a small catalog.
FreeReels next to other short drama apps
FreeReels isn't in our comparison dataset, which covers seven apps with App Store data read on October 2, 2026. The table helps you compare the alternatives; it isn't a ranking. See also our guides to free short dramas and the best short drama apps.

The TotalShort option
We make TotalShort, so weigh this section accordingly. It's a short drama app with a small catalog: four Italian-set series, made with AI and labeled as such, in episodes of 34 to 64 seconds. The first 8 episodes of every series are free, then one a day per series, and today you watch in your browser at totalshort.com, on Android, iPhone or a computer, with no sign-up.
The arithmetic of finishing a TotalShort series
- 8 episodes
- freeevery series
- Episodes 9–12
- 4 × 30 coins= 120 coins = €1.20
- Or the free daily episode
- 1 per series per dayfree in 4 days
- VIP break-even
- €5.99 ÷ €0.30≈ 20 paid episodes a week
Coins are worth €0.01 each. Prices of coin packs and VIP are shown in the app before every purchase. They are in euros; on the US App Store the weekly VIP is set at $5.99, and the store always shows your country’s price before you pay.
The honest limits: four series is nothing next to a catalog of 70,000, there are no live actors, and the iPhone and Android apps are coming soon. To see whether the format works for you, try episode 1 of The Heiress in an Apron.
How to cancel anything you bought
If you subscribed to anything through FreeReels or DramaReels, you cancel it with the store that bills you, not in the app.
Where to tap to cancel
iPhone and iPad
- Settings
- Your name, at the top
- Subscriptions
- The app’s subscription
- Cancel Subscription
Android
- Play Store
- Profile picture, top right
- Payments & subscriptions
- Subscriptions
- The app’s subscription
- Cancel subscription
Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. On iPhone you may have to scroll to see the button, and an expiration message in red means it is already cancelled. Can’t find it? On iPhone, look for the Apple receipt in your email to see which Apple Account paid; on Android it may be on another Google account, so switch accounts in the Play Store.
Sources: Apple Support, Google Play Help. Menu labels can change slightly between versions.
Deleting the app cancels nothing, and refunds are up to Google Play or Apple [7][8]. Our cancellation guide covers every case.
Common mistakes
Taking "no limits" to mean "no costs"
The description says free; the listing also says ads and purchases up to $119.99. Both are on the same page.
Downloading an APK because you're on iPhone
There's no FreeReels for iPhone. An APK won't install on an iPhone anyway, and on Android it skips Google's checks.
Installing the wrong app
FreeReels, DramaReels and FreeDrama are three different listings. Read the publisher before you tap Install.
Leaving purchases unprotected
On an ad-supported app, one mistaken tap on a paid item is the usual way money leaves. Turn on purchase verification first.
Frequently asked questions
Is FreeReels really free?
Its description says "always free to access — no subscriptions, no limits" [1], and reviewers confirm you can watch series without paying. What pays for it is advertising: the listing carries the "Contains ads" label, and ads are the most common complaint in reviews. The listing also shows in-app purchases from $0.99 to $119.99 per item, without saying what they unlock. So: free to watch, with ads, and with optional purchases. Turn on Google Play's purchase verification so nothing gets bought by accident [5].
Is FreeReels available on iPhone?
No. We searched Apple's App Store in the US and Italy on October 6, 2026, and FreeReels isn't there [3]. The same company, SKYWORK AI PTE LTD, publishes DramaReels on the App Store, rated 4.9 from about 38,900 ratings in the US and 13+. If you're on iPhone, that's the app from the same publisher; check the publisher name before installing, and don't confuse it with "FreeDrama", which comes from a different developer [4].
Is FreeReels safe?
From Google Play, it's a real app from a named publisher with more than 100 million downloads [1]. Its data safety declaration says no data is shared with third parties, that it may collect location and personal info, that data is encrypted in transit and that you can request deletion; that's the developer's statement, which Google says may change. The risk to avoid is installing an APK from a download site instead of from Google Play. Rated Teen with "Diverse Content: Discretion Advised".
Who owns FreeReels?
The publisher on Google Play is SKYWORK AI PTE. LTD. [1], a Singapore private limited company by its legal form. The same publisher is behind DramaWave and, on iPhone, DramaReels [3]. The listing gives free-reels.com as the website and a Gmail address for contact. Whoever owns it, what matters for your money is that any purchase goes through Google Play, which is where you cancel and ask for refunds.
Why does FreeReels have so many ads?
Because ads are how it pays for being free. The listing carries the "Contains ads" label [1], and reviewers often say there are a lot of them around episodes. The listing doesn't say whether any purchase removes ads, so don't buy something hoping it will; read what each item says on Google Play's purchase sheet first. If the ads bother you more than paying would, a paid app with clear prices may suit you better.
Is FreeReels the same as DramaWave?
No, but they come from the same publisher, SKYWORK AI PTE. LTD. [1]. FreeReels presents itself as free with ads; DramaWave sells a weekly VIP, which we list at $7.99 on the US App Store in our DramaWave guide. Different apps, different models, same company. Compare them on what you'd actually pay for the series you'd actually watch.
What is the FreeReels website?
The Google Play listing gives https://free-reels.com as the official website [1]. Be careful with other sites using similar names that offer downloads or "unlocked" versions: if you want the app, Google Play is the only place we'd install it from. For watching legally without paying across several apps, see our guide to free short dramas.
How do I cancel a FreeReels purchase or subscription?
Not inside the app. On Android: Play Store, profile picture, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, then the app, then Cancel subscription [7]. One-off purchases don't renew; refund requests go to Google Play. If you bought something in DramaReels on iPhone, cancel in Settings, your name, Subscriptions [8]. Deleting the app cancels nothing. Our cancellation guide has the full steps.
